Well after a long history that is irrelevant, I have finally decided to do a LO profile headlight conversion, and change the pivot point of the stock lids, and lighten up the entire assy....and use hopefully just ONE motor to raise/lower both at ONCE....figger on saving about 30 lbs or so...best guess....
at any rate I have both sides pivoted as a mock up, and the clearances are workable...
I have the pass side lamps mounted up in mock up, and tested for conceivable operation...IE...it pivots as desired when in up/down position....
so the job is to do the same with driver's side....mirror image...and then to get my buddy to TIG them up....and then...
come up with a flip up/dn mechanism so they both are rattle free and go up/dn on a snap at same time....
keep in mind this is a weight saving effort also...as well as only 3.5 inches of front opening height....
I think that it'll be pretty cool. I'll have to do something similiar when it comes time. I like the pop up look, but hate the added weight and the requirement for engine vacuum.

Gene I saw mention of this in a recent post of yours. Can you give me a review of what you have got going on?
I have long realized the drag created by headlights in the up position and wanted a lower profile headlight set-up as you describe. My idea was to use the late model Camaro or Gran Pr ix small rectangular light pods and then limit the travel of the doors.
The cubes have all of the needed adjusters and mounting needs addressed.
Post or send me a description of your system. Thanks Jim
i saw a guy around here at a show that used nissan 300 zx headlights and he made the stock doors ,instead of going up the lids dropped down backwards towards the back to reveal the small 300zx headlights.
