I'm in the middle of re-bushing, my 71-350-auto. Also changing the bearings, u joints, etc... I need some advice on what shocks to buy. I am no racer. My vette is basically a street cruiser. Any advice would be helpful!!
I'm running the KYBs too. For what you're describing, you'd be happy with them, too. I'm sure someone will pop in soon and tell you to buy the Bilsteins though.
Running the Koni's here. I like the adjustablity of the shocks, you can tune them to your liking. There are other shocks now on the market that you can tune while the shock is on the car. Koni's have to be removed to adjust. I had a set of KYB's on mine and found them too soft for my tastes.
bilsteins if you don't care about money. Koni's if you do.
...Or another way of looking at it.......Bilsteins if you're single......Koni's if you're married......and Sensa-tracs if you're married and on an allowance.
Are the Konis cheaper than the Bilsteins? I think the bilsteins are about 275$ for 4 as where the konis are 200$ for only 2 shocks. For C3s i think only the orange (red) adjustable classics are available and not the **** adjustable (**** on top, only rebound adjustable) yellow sport shocks.
Bilstein uses a different approach to shocks than other manufacturers of oil shocks, they have a gas cylinder that is pressurized so that the oil will always be under pressure and is less likely to foam under heavy operation, this is nice but it also means that the shock is a little stiffer than a comparable shock of the same valving. Because of this pressurized system bilstein uses high quality seals in their shocks, they can be used upside down (unsprung weight although I don't see anyone here running theirs upside down, it wouldn't even be possible on the front)
The konis have an adjustable rebound setting, most street shocks are pretty soft on bump to give a smooth ride and road contact but are stiffer on rebound so that the car won't bounce.
