Speedo cable sticking?
How do I go about greasing the speedometer cable on my 79 vette. Does it come out from below or from behind the dash? Thanks.

In '75 there was a major problem with this- speedometer needle jumped all over the place. No amount of cable lube corrected it. Cause was a problem with the transmission driven gear. Don't know if this problem was resolved by '79 but, if cable doesn't correct the problem, look at the driven gear- easily replaceable by disconnecting the speedo cable at the transmission.

I bought the special grease tool from Mid-America. You just remove the ends, screw onto the fitting and then it has a grease fitting so you can pump grease into the cable. Doing this regularly helps eliminate the speedo needle bounce.
