Default Vette pulls to the right

Ok guys need your help again I am stumped . I just redid the suspension on the 77 vette .All new bushings front coil 9 leaf rear new shocks, sway bars front and rear . Then I got car aligned ,everything was fine till I had to lock up the brakes .Well today pulled both front tires and checked calipers . The left front was leaking . Changed both calipers and hoses also bleed the front brakes all seemed fine .Then I pushed a little hard going about 30mph and here we go again pulling to the right .Any ideas

could be some residual oil, grease or brake fluid on the rotor. Go out and bed the pads in a little and see if it'll burn off.

Your left front brake pads have been contaminated with brake fluid. Once contaminated, they won't grip the rotors.

If you rebuild or replace the calipers and pads, your car will stop fine.

If there was residual brake fluid on the rotors, can they be turned to remove the contaminated part, or do they have to be replaced all together.

And if there was leaking fluid, then the pads themselves would also be contaminated, so the pads have to be replaced, I dont think you can turn them like a rotor, and the rotor has to be cleaned in some way.

Is that the right way to think about this?

Have you changed the brake lines? Mine pull to the right also and have been told that old lines tend to get weak and if one side colapses and doesn't let as much fluid pressure to the caliper the other side pulls.

Make sense??

Dude, Like i said, try going out and doing several hard stops and get the brakes real hot to burn off the crap and bed the pads in before you go replacing the whole braking system. We have a bunch of conservative people here on this forum that think throwing a bunch of money at a problem is the first and only solution.

There is also an adjustment on the steering part that looks like a shock. I did it a long time ago though threre is a little cap you remove & loosen a nut & turn a screw I believe. Take off the drivers side wheel & you'll see it. But this doesn't have any affect with the applying of the brakes just when your going down the road & take your hands off the wheel & it goes to the right or left.

Default Always Strart Cheap and Easy then Work up

I agree with the post above. When troubleshooting a problem often their are multiple possible causes. It cracks me up how a lot of people just "know" what the problem is...jump right into it spend a ton of time and money only to realize it was something cheap and easy to fix.

Completely dignose the problem then logically start your repairs beginning with the most simple and then gettting more complex and expensive if the simple fixes dont work. Take the car out on a dusty road and raise some hell...make multiple hard stops. If that does not fix the problem or it get significantly worse check the calipers for leaks. If no leaksthen do the following:

replace pads and Rotors...if that doesn't work
Bleed brakes completely...if that doesn't work
Replace brake hoses....(I had a similar problem and mine was hose related) The rubber ones are VERY thick and can swell shut on the inside and you will not be able to tell it from the outside....if that doesn't work.
Replace the calipers....If that doesnt work
replace hard lines.....eventually you will reach your solution. I'm betting it goes no farther than the hoses.

Check for leaks again. Fluid on the rotors/pads would cause this. You need to use 2 copper washers if you want the hose to caliper joint to seal properly. Check the bottom of the caliper for a fluid drip, wipe it off if wet, then push down hard on the brakes and see if the fluid shows up again. If you get fluid again, trace the source.

I tried to work with silicone fluid contaminated pads a while back. They never seemed to burn off even after repeated cleanings and hard running. I ended up replacing them and all was well after that. Scary to drive at all when the brakes are not working right.
