Default single wire alternators

are there any problems associated with converting from my stock 79 delcotron alternator to a single wire alternator. what are the advantages of these alternators. what do you do with the delcotron wires you're not using any more? just tape 'em off?

the thing with the 1 wire alternators is that they don't charge as well as the 3 wire setup under a certain rpm. 2500, correct me if i'm wrong? Anyway, if you plan to be idling in traffic alot i'd reccomend the 3 wire. If the car is a highway cruizer like mine, the 1 wire works great.

madelectrical.com has some good discussion about single wire alternators. Basically the idea is discouraged if you have car with a electical system with significant power loads; i.e air conditioning, etc.
