anyone got a source for space saver spare tire (complete tire and wheel) for late 70's vettes. can't locate one in any of my catalogs or on the internet. any info appreciated
Didnt know you could run a space saver on the rear... Heard they burn out the posi...
I'm going to run a full size. Rather just rotate between 5 tires, instead of have a light weight, that requires pulling a front tire, putting it on the rear... and putting the donut on the front!
that's what i'm doing now. just trying to save some weight..... and space. my tires are bigger than stock and it's a t-i-g-h-t fit to get it in the wheel well and hook it up.

the space saver had to be the right size.... i have a space saver from a later 70s vette it is the same diameter/circumference so there is no issue with the posi....i got it from e-bay auction for $40 plus shipping, i also checked before i bought it to see if i could put a new tire on it and i can 195/80 15. you do however have to crank the spare carrier all the way up
Try a space-saver from a late 80s IROC Camaro or Trans-Am. Should be a similar diameter to stock. You can also use a C4 space-saver, that's what I have.

i watched a sale at ebay and the guy kept dropping his price after each listing and when it was with 10 dollars of what i wanted to spend i e-mailed after the auction ended and made an offer....i wanted to save some weight and did not have a spare..
About the only thing I have left from a 1981 that I have been parting out is the spare tire assembly. I have the tire/rim upper and lower housing, and brackets to install.
The tire is dry rotted, but appears to hold air. I wouldn't drive on it more than 50 miles or so if I had to use it.
$40 plus shipping sounds fair to me if it does to you.
Unless you always rotate your 5 tires, the spare doesn't have to be the same size as the others, just the same diameter - for example a 225/70R15 is the same overall diameter as a 255/60R15 and a 255/55R16, and fits fine in the carrier. Joe
