Transmission cover?

Transmission cover?

I was cruising in the vette last night and had a long piece of open road, so I opened her up. Got her up to about 120-130. After I brought her back down I noticed a scrapping sound coming from underneath the car. When I got back home I looked underneath and I saw this concave metal cover half hanging down. It looks like it covers where the tranny connects to the engine. I can also see a big gear looking thing (flywheel?). Can someone tell me what it is and where I can get a replacement quick?

I believe you are taking about your flywheel cover. They are available at any parts house I think for around $20.00. They come in a light weight metal or plastic either kind will do fine.

Right on. It covers the flywheel and torque converter. Make sure you have all the bolts holding it up. They probably vibrated loose.

Toss the damn thing away, you would have to be the world's unluckiest SOB to suffer anything but superior cooling from it's absence....
