transmission help
hey guys, can i get a little help with this: i have a friend that has a 76 vette with a 350/325. He tore the tranny out and took it to some dude to get it fixxed. Upper east tennessee to be exact. anyway to make a long story short, he needs a mainshaft. the guy at the tranny shop can't tell him what it is. i saw the shaft and it looked like a shaft that i once had in a t10. i ask him to call the tranny shop to get the part numbers off of it. seems like my t10 had t10b on it I believe. anyway, it doesn't say t10 on it. the numbers that he gave me were, 1304065903, ftc1, and 1229-7. does any of these numbers mean anything to anyone. he says that the thing has 32 splines and the main shaft is 21 3/4. are trans-am z-28 trannys the same?

If it's a Borg-Warner T-10(that's what what would have originally come in a '76 4spd car), it will have a 26 tooth splined mainshaft. If it does have 32 then I would'nt know what it is. Those mainshafts for T-10 are available and run about $200-$250. If this transmission is a Borg-Warner, on the left side of the tailshaft just ahead of the shifter it will say "BorgWarner" with their logo.
