Default Engine vibration, How do I check the harmonic balancer

I have been having a problem with vibration at 75 mph and above.
It seems to be at the engine and occurs at 3200 rpm and above. I have had the drive shaft balanced and replaced the universal joints. I can feel it when reving the engine in lower gears. If I get on the highway after the car has been idling like in the line at the bank or in slow traffic and the vibration is gone. I think it may be the harmonic balancer. How does that work and how can I check it?

well first off, if it is the balancer or any other engine component you will feel the vibration just sitting still - you don't need to be driving it. With the car sitting at a stop, just rev the engine past that 3200RPM limit. If it is indeed from the engine you'll feel it.

Next, it's possible that a weight has come off the torque convertor if it's an automagic trans. If it's a standard, which it sounds like from your message, then I doubt a 'weight has flown off'' the flywheel but it could be a steady misfire such as a plug wire being bad...and missing only under a load.

Now about the balancer. You need to verify TDC from the cylinder, and then look at the indicator on the balancer. If it is not pointing to TDC then the balancer is bad.
