If you don't have to worry about your catalytic converter 
then go with Mid America's chambered exhaust system.
It has the sound of side pipes without the cost. It's about $300 plus installation.
I have it on my '77 and it sounds great.
It may be too loud for some people but my wife and I both love the sound.
