Default C3 coming home present

My nephew is in Iraq. I want to get him a car when he comes home. He wants to find a '69 Camaro when he gets back. But I wonder if he just overlooks a Vette because he can't afford one. I'd like him to have a Vette for several reasons: 1) I have an '87 convertibe. 2) There is a '69 coupe for sale locally. 3) It's not much more $ for the Vette than the Camaro 4) I think it's a much cooler car. That being said what should I pay for a : 1969 Vette Coupe, 350 horse 350, 4 speed, power steering, power brakes, runs good, interior is ok but needs attention, exterior is ok but will need paint before this project is over. Is the Vette any harder to work on than the Camaro? Your input on this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

Default Comparison

I've found a Camaro not terribly far away from my area for about $3k less than the Vette I'm considering. It's in very comparable condition. My question is, what is the Vette worth?

Tom,
I want you to be MY uncle -LOL!

-Mark.

A decent base 69 Camaro is about $10-$15K in good condition but need a little help. The Vette is more difficult to price but if you could get this one for maybe $3K more you probably are doing right. A lot of Vette sellers seem to want more than the market will currently bear. It seems like Vette auctions are not hitting the reserve a lot of the time. You will not get a "real" muscle car Camaro in this price range but the Vette is a good preformance vehicle as you recieve it. I would probaly say the Vette is more bang for the buck at this time.

-Mark.

I'd educate him on both vechicles but if his heart's with the Camaro well then it's what he loves. I'd trade my 68 vert for a 69 RS/SS in a heart beat.

Default Back from Iraq

Coming back from Iraq he may appreciate the back seat in that Camaro!! My son is a Z28 kind of guy while I am a Vet kind of guy and that works fine for both of us.

Default no force

It's not my intention or plan to force my taste on my nephew. I am inquiring as we speak as to his opinion of the Vette v Camaro. The Camaro I found is $8,500.00, the Vette I'm looking at is $11,500.00. (asking prices) I am almost willing to bet the reason a Camaro is the object of his affection is, he thinks the Vette is out of his price range. If this is the case I just want to pay the right price for the car. I think I can get the Vette for more like $10K. Would I be doing ok if I do?

Without seeing the cars the prices sound decent. I would ask him point blank which car would he prefer if he had the choice. If he doesn't want the vette buy it for yourself and the camero for him!

The Vette is clearly the better option. I'm sure that the Camaro isn't in too good of shape for the price. If someone wanted a Camaro and then got a Vette, they then drove the Vette, they would realize that it was a better choice. Besides, the Vette won't rust and isn't a unibody.

We all prefer vettes, however if he has his heart set on a Camaro, that's were I'd be looking. The kids probably been through Hell. Sounds like he'll have a great homecoming whether he gets a car or not. Sounds like he has a great uncle too, and I don't mean YOUR uncle. Good for you (and him).
