Ok so I'm thinking my plan is going to be tougher than I thought so I'd like to hear your opinions on it AND see if anyone has a custom gas cap already and how they did it. Anyways I plan to use the Z06 motorsport wheels on my car so to match that, I planned to install a custom chrome gas cap with an allen-head screw pattern to match. My original plan was to get a thin as possible peice of steel machined up then chrome plate it as a ring around the stock one, have the body shop mill out that thickness around the current cap and then countersink some allenhead screws somehow so that it looks flush. I'm inspired by my dad's miata cap because I love the look and it would match my wheels:
So would this be feasable at all? Alternatives? I think if I could pull this off it would really set off the car...
All those look great, big632 is kinda what im looking for but if i could make it flush it would look so much better (since I'm going with the allen-heads not the screw) but his may be more practical. Is there anyway to build up the fiberglass underneath it? Is this something the weekend warrior can do and if not how much cost am I looking at?
I can make you one for 50 dollars cost. You can use allens if you want ,I have screws since that is what are used on the wing.Flush inside will leave a gap. This is almost a bolt on. You will need to trim a little where the hinge is. Not hard at all to install. Your factory cap is below if that is what you are using.
