Default Getting some valve clatter under heavy acceleration

I've got the car timed correctly and it was running pretty well. I'm running mild cam with vortec heads, performer intake and stock qjet (rebuilt). This evening I went for a cruise. Only about the fourth long cruise. It runs out fine but from standing start under heavy acceleration it pings a little then goes away. Any ideas?

Thanks, Mark

Sounds like a higher octane might be needed or maybe some oil starvation. I'm sure the experts will chime in soon.

Slow down the curve. Put one stiffer spring in the distributor and see if it goes away.

That sounds like a good idea. I am using the lightest spring in the kit. I was supposing the problem was elsewhere because I hadn't noticed before but that may be because I just haven't pushed it like I did this time.

Yes that sounds even more likely now. You might notice the idle getting smoother too once you swap in the medium spring. Try one medium spring and one soft and see if it goes away. If it gets only a little better but still there try two medium springs. That should be about right but in some cases you may need to go stiffer.

Mark, Thanks for the help. I installed one stiffer spring from the curve kit and left one of the light ones. Car launches well now.
