Anyone ever deal with them on their blocks or engine kits? They have ads in a few mags and have fair prices. They have a bored(.030") prepped block for $350 seems like a good price?
Thanks,
Gary
Gary,
I have not as yet purchased anything from them, but I found them very helpful in my research on my stroker motor.
My 396 kit will be coming from them.
I'm also considering a BB short block from them. I checked them out with the Better Business Bureau in CA and if there were any complaints they were resolved.

No machine shop.

No inhouse machine work done at Larrys. If thats the Larrys out here in the LA basin area they just rebox the parts Gary - well maybe assemble some too. I called Larrys up in LA years ago about machine work for a custom block and there wasn't any machine shop to visit - sub contracts it all out somewhere else. Same for Speed-O-Motive though they do show machines now on thier website. And ya know they probaly don't care much as long as the money comes in and theres little recourse from out'a state. Thats some low overhead when u don't need equipment - or just a boxing machine.
Now PAW advertizes visits to thier retail and machine shop are welcome (and list visiting hours) though I have never driven up there. I use PAW often for parts and happy with thier customer service. I personnaly know of people buying and building good engines from thier kits and PAw does have quite a selection/options. And I think thats were the real savings is in doing ur own assembly where u can double check all the machine work and do ur own blue-printing - saves lots of labor. U can also verify what parts are going inside.
Good luck. cardo0
Interesting, The Larry's I'm referring to is in AZ. They advertise in CHP every month.
PAW has been around for years too and I haven't heard anything bad about them. I'll have to see if they have a web site.
Thanks,
Gary

I just looked at thier website and they advertize a machine shop. Wow, unless they have installed equipment since i called them about 2000, thats false advertizing. Thier website posts inhouse machine work so i need to get up there and take a look. This is kinda scary because what they claim on that website ain't what they told me on the phone and not so long ago (2000ish). Unless they have bought equipment since then thier gett'n pretty bold. Well greed can do terrible things and so what if they get caught lying? What could happen? Nott'n! cardo0

When I built my stroker I paid the same, locally, for a 4-bolt main block that had the same treatment - bored and prepped for assembly.
I found a BB locally that the guy wants $800 firm for. It's in a truck that's been used on a farm in PA for the past 24 years. The odometer stopped working awhile ago and reals 128,000. When I add in the cost of machine work alone the total comes to around $1600 before a single piston is installed. If I could find a decent block for around $200 then it begins to make economic sense to have it built locally otherwise, a short block or even a long block becomes cost effective.
