Theres an ongoing discussion between my friends on which oil is the best for the rearaxel.
Some state that 80-140 is the way to go because of its thickness and it will help dampen the load on the gears.
The other half claims that its unnecessary to go that thick and 80-90 oil is just plenty enough to lube and dampen the gearload.
Many of the "rearaxel pro`s/rebuilders" says that 80-140 is the oil to use.
Whats your take on this issue?

I used 80w-90, but on the container Valvoline said posi additive wasn't necessary...do they add that right in the lube now? I have only had mine in and out of the garage since the rear end rebuild...not even around the block yet.

AC, I used Valvoline in the past and didn't use the GM additive, it freakin knocked all the time. Get the 2 bottles for $14 and save yourself a headache.

Oh great! It was messy the first time! I can imagine after I add the stuff past the bottom of the fill hole!

Please post here when you decided what oil to use, I'm about to do this change this winter too.
I have a whining sound from the rear axle when I let of gas at some speeds, i figured that the first thing to change is the oil.
