Haven't driven my 75 vette in a good month and a half. Don't like taking her out in the rain.
Anyway, I finally got my custom tags and I tried to start her up to back her out and get the front tag on.
Turned the key and nothing.
not even a click.
battery doesn't look to be older than 2 years.
I jumped her off the truck and she started up.
ran fine, let her run for 30 minutes turned her off and tried to start her and all I got was the intemittent clicking.
Walked away for 20 minutes...now I at least get a hum and the lights come on when i put the key in, when i turn it...nada!
Had frost on the cars outside this morning, so it's much colder than normal.
I have 5 other projects going right now so if i type all this out and look at it later, I may think through it.
I'm half tempted to buy a battery charger and throw it on and see if that works...
New Battery?
New Alternator?
New starter?

Sounds like the battery has just gone dead. Next time you start the car, check the voltage at the battery and make sure the voltage comes up to around 14.5 volts. If the voltage does come up your alternator is fine. Charge the battery and check the voltage on it. The battery voltage should be around 11.5-13.0 volts or so with the car off. Give the battery charger a shot first before buying an alternator or battery.
You should have a battery charger regardless. You need one if you have any infrequently driven cars because lead-acid batteries will commit suicide if you let them drain completely down. Get one that can trickle (1 amp) charge, and put it on for a day or two at least once a month, twice would be better, three is overkill.
Check the battery, getting a charger ins't a bad idea. You never know when you may need it again. If all else fails, you may be shorting out the positive battery cable. Check to make sure all the sheathing is intact. Although, if this was the problem, it would also have struggled with the jump start.
