700r4 install (need help)
in the middle of 700r4 install .... going well.... whats the deal with the two senders in the pan.....per the instructions i only replace one of them what do i do with the other one?? disconnect wiring and leave it in place? using bowtie overdrives solenoid wiring kit? need help don't want to blow it.....thks bob
The senders control the torque converter lockup. Transmissions have different combinations according to the car it was origianlly in. A good manual will show the diagrams that apply to the transmission type. that type number is coded on the data plate. When I did mine, I didnt want converter lockup in 3rd gear, so I changed the switch and eliminated 3rd gear lock up. As for you application, I dont know about the aftermarket kits, but I would suspect that you change the one that they tell you to and leave the other.
Looks for all the world like you have one very similar to mine, in that lockup is available in 2nd gear, and that switch is with one wire in the second pix....as I recall.....
the one with 2 wires in it is in the 3/4 valve action, and I"m not sure how it operates...never bothered to research it...but, it allows lockup in both 3-4 gears.....so connect them all and leave them alone....
here is the gig on MY car, I have a console switch, that allowed the tranny to lockup in 2-3-4 gears, all the time, NOT speed related, and it kept locked even when shifting....I had a loose converter, so that's why that option....
so when it finally blew the 3/4 clutch pack, I went to a tighter converter, as usual for a truck....
so the shift when selected to computer controll is now firm enough to make me feel decent about, IE...a kick in the ***....

thks all, the feed back is quite reassuring....this is how i resolved it i changed the one they told me to and put the other back, to act as a plug....the new wiring from the solenoid had no wires for it...so its effectively just a plug...
This picture shows the lockup wiring in my 700R4. The 3rd gear lockup sensor has been replaced with a pipe plug but leaving the old sensor in place will work just as well as a pipe plug.

well almost ok... put on pan started to bolt up stuff and guess what cable brackets are not the same and the holes do not line up.... how did you guys resolve this?? i have switched the trans bracket from the th350 to the 700r4 so the cable bracket for the trans shifter cable (i would guess) needs to be transfered also... how would you guys go about lining these up???? i can cut and weld so fabricating is not an issue.... how did you guys resolve this issue? thks bob
-Modified the original TH-350 shifter bracket. (The distance between the pan bolts on the TH-350 were ~3 ½” apart and the pan bolts on the 700R4 are about 3” apart). Cut a 1/2" section out from the middle of the bracket and weld it back together.

tomorrow/next week the console shifter kit goes in.....so between shortening the cable bracket and installing the shifter console kit... does that square away all cabling issues??? or are there other adjustments that i will need to make? thks bob

then i opened up the console shifter package and it was full of new stuff that was exactly what i just welded up.....also the new stuff was a really nice quality and allowed me to adjust the distance according to the specs in the instruction sheet perfectly .... wish i had opened it up earlier.

How much did the console shifter kit cost?
like $100 bucks, it is nice quality stuff, i will probably keep it. i have to see what the detent inside the console looks like.... .... i will compare the two detents together and photo them, i was thinking i may even create a template of the new detent if its possible to modify the old one to make it similar. if nothing else doing this the first time with a kit takes the mystery out of it....so to recap the kit has 5 main parts to it. 1. cable bracket and retainging clip, 2. lever and pin
3. console detent 4. new shift console lens indicator graphic
5. Instructions....
so far i needed the instructions for the specification for setting up distance between bracket and lever pin, i fabricated a bracket that would have worked, and the old 700r4 lever would have worked if i transfered the pin from my TH350. of course this is only after having the benefit of the kit, others experience and having done it....

I used a stock C4 Corvette cable bracket and shift arm. Works like a charm.
