Default different type cranks ?

Hi

What is a " Nodular crank " ?
The translation from US to German or french in the dictionary does not make any sense.

I know what a cast or forged steel crank is, but this ??

Thanks. Gunther

Supposed to be a little stronger that ordinary cast but not as strong as forged, Scat 9000 are nodular cranks and pretty good for the money

Nodular cast iron, also known as spheroid graphite iron, is that the graphite is present in ball-like form instead of flakes as in ordinary gray cast iron. This results in a casting of high strength and appreciable ductility. Its toughness is intermediate between that of cast iron and steel. It is more economical to make than steel because it can be cast in molds by the millions.

Just like what Z-man said. Also will dampen vibration better than forged but forged is the all-out strength winner. U can identify a forged piece just by a small metal tap to hear it ring.
I recall something like 7,000 rpm will need a forged crank but the nodgular live just fine below that rpm. And the nodgular will twist a bit to survive with less balance used. cardo0

Ahh, now the translation starts to meke sense as it translates nodular to something like " many knots ".
Thanks a lot.
