Default Speedo cable question

I have a brand new one. Do they come pre-lubed or do I need to do it before installation? If I have to do it, what is the correct procedure? Thanks.

The new ones I bought were already greased. You don't want to over grease them and have it work it's way up to the speedo head.

Ok, did you use a drill to turn the cable? I am guessing that is the only way to work the lube into the entire cable. I just looked at the cable again and it has no lube in it. I "won" it on ebay. I will be heading to the parts store tomorrow to get me some of that graphite lube. Oh, I posted the same question on chevytalk.org and was told to get graphite lube, not oil-type lube. Also, the guy said to make sure and be very careful with that lube, cause it gets all over things if you aren't careful. Thanks for the replies.

Right, I just pulled out the cable part and it is dry, so most definitely it will be lubed, maybe tomorrow, weather permitting. I don't have an enclosed garage. Thanks for the tip.

No Vette, but I won a 67 396 Impala on ebay in Sept. I have been collecting parts and will be finishing the interior very soon. It is about 90 percent restored, with the interior left to do. Once that is done, I will bring it by. I am making it a custom interior. It is sweet and the engine is a friggin monster. His estimate was 400-425 hp. The guy said it was in a Nova that he made four passes in on the quarter mile. The car ran a low 12 second for the best run.

I found white lithium grease to be better than graphite...for what it is worth.
