Been wanting to install a harness kit in my vette and have come across the Shark Bar. It looks easy enough, no modifications and looks good. would like some input if anyone has one or knows of this product. What are good harness belts to buy?
I have the Shark Bar in my car. I feel very secure with the shark bar system with Pyrotect belts. It doesn't pop in and out but it can be removed and re-installed in 15 minutes. I had it out the other day when I replaced my "normal" 1976 seat belts with seat belts from a 1995 Camaro. I could ditch the "normal" belts and just use the harness everyday. One bonus with the Shark Bar is that it fits very snug from one side of the car to the other. This snug reinforcement eliminates just about all creaks and squeaks these cars are prone to have.
I have the Pyrotect belts and I am not an expert on harness belts but I see lots of Simpson belts at the race track.
Dealing with Dan at Vetteworks is a pleasure. Very smart guy when it comes to automobiles.

Vetteworks is the manufacturer of The Shark Bar ™ C3 Corvette Harness Bar. It installs into all late model C3 without any major modifications. The Series 2 Harness Bar will keep occupants securely in place when autocrossing or road racing. It attaches to the existing seat belt anchors and doesn't block access to the rear compartments or sun shade. The lap belt brackets use the existing lap belt anchors, but position the lap belt further behind the seat so the lap belts will align at a 45 degree angle across the occupants mid section. The anti-submarine (crotch) brackets can be ordered with a mount to secure a fire extinguisher. Many customer have also commented on how the harness bar helps removes squeeks and rattles from the t-tops.

The '70 thru '73 Shark Bar Series-3 for coups will be available in January '05. It will be a total bolt in harness bar that attaches to the factory anchors and will not effect seat adjustment. The '68-'69 coupe version will be available soon after. The harness bar is designed to attach 3" aftermarket 5-pt harness belts for the driver and passenger. The bar will increase to a 1.5" O.D. DOM. Powder coated gloss black. Custom colors are available at little more cost.

Dan,
FYI, I am not sure that the bolt holes for the shoulder belt retracters are the same on the 68's as they are on later models. I know that I have vertical bolts on top of my wheel wells but I believe that the '68s had horizontal bolts in the side of the wheel wells. Also, not all convertibles have shoulder belt mounts.

Steve
Steve, You are correct, they are different, but it's a mod to the anchor bracket. The bar design will not have to change. All Corvette between '68 thru '73 have the shoulder belt anchors holes even if they didn't have the shoulder harness belt option. The factory used these anchors on the assembly line to position the body over the frame. Please correct me if my information is incorrect. One note: The picture on the web page for the Shark Bar Series 3 has changed slightly from the production model.

We just finished the research, design, and development on our C3R harness bar for 68-75 C3 convertibles. Each C3R harness bar comes with a mounted fire extinguisher and will be ready for shipping with in the next week.
We are also coming out with stainless steel side pipe muffler inserts that will be good for the life of your C3. The stainless steel side pipe muffler inserts are a two part repackable straight through design that minimizes the restriction of exhaust flow.
