Default 79 cruise control question

Soon as I get the speedo needle bounce issue addressed I want to move on to hooking up my cruise to see if it works. I ordered a cruise servo rod from ecklers, it's about 6 in long, has a looped end on one side which I assume hooks up to the servo. The other end is threaded and is a few inches short of reaching the stud on the carb linkage. Does anybody know what type of pice goes there, or maybe have a photo or diagram? Is it a rod, cable or what and most important where can I get it??
Thx, ESU in NY

The speedometer needle bounce may be due to the cruise control
servo binding. To test, disconnect both cables from it and turn one of
threaded ends (shaft) that the cables were connected to.
You should be able to spin the shaft with little resistance. If there is
binding or the shaft is hard to turn then the cruise control servo is
defective. Rebuilt units are availble from Napa or Advance Auto Parts
(their web site) as well as the corvette parts vendors.

The rod should be to pieces. the one you have is the rear one that goes to the serve. The front part has a eyelet at one end and threads that hook to the part you have. The eyelet mounts to a stug on the drivers throttle linkage...

and sorry that I didn't post the promised pics (batteries dead in camera). I had to fabricate the stud that mounts on the carb using a 1" bolt and three nuts. I used stainless and turned out not too bad (too bubba). I looked thru the Zip catalog and couldn't find anything. Probably best bet is a junk yard.

The stud that mounts on the carb is available from corvette america. Will break out my old build sheets and see if I can locate it on the diagrams.

sorry I didn't get these posted sooner. Hope they help. My car is a 79 too, but my cruise doesn't work atm. the cruismaster is toast. I took it apart and that disk is rubbing against the housing like either the shaft or bushing is worn out. My speedo still works, but bounces at certain speeds.

Mark, I think you are getting the servo and the transducer mixed up. The servo is the big round 1/2 rubber 1/2 metal vaccuum thing that hooks directly to the carburetor. The transducer is what the cable goes in to from the transmission and then out to the speedometer.

There are 2 different transducers for '79. One is for the cruise switch that does not have resume. The other is for the cruise switch that has resume. It is easy to tell which one you need, if you have only one button on the end of your turn signal lever you don't have the resume. If you have a large black turn signal lever with a sliding switch and a button you have resume.

The last time I went to NAPA, they could not get a new transducer for my car, and they even referenced it from the part number on the transducer. However, you can get rebuilt transducers from the vette parts vendors.

You can also take your transducer apart and try to clean it up. I tore mine apart and sprayed chemtool in it, dryed it out, and then sprayed grease in it and slapped it back together and on the car. My cruise works perfectly now, and it didn't work in 1982 when the car was parked for 18 years.
