i had regular 40's, the ones in the silver casing, for about 2 weeks. 2500rpm is death to your ears due to resonance. If you can avoid 2500rpm they sound fantastic, however the volume of the "flowmaster sound" is starting to lose its effect on me.

i hated them in my vette. Everything vibrated and resonated. They only stayed on a week. Perhaps in a typical car/truck they would be fine.

I have 50 delta flows and love them. The basic sounds are similar I'm sure, due to the packing-free design. An H-pipe is supposed to mellow out the sound alot.

I have the delta flow 40's and I love them. Great sound at idle, and an even better sound when you jump on it.

I have the super 40's on my 78. Hooker Jet coated headers with no cat and I love the sound. Unbelievable sound at idle with the cam that's installed.

I've got super 40's on my 76 with ceramic coated headers and 2.5 inch exhaust with a built 383 stroker motor. I love them However my car is not a daily driver only a sunny day cruiser, so after driving my toyota tacoma for 2 weeks, hearing the thing rumbling at a stop light is music to my ears

check out this sound clip from the day I put them on...

Have them on my 502 with a H pipe. Sounds pretty good in my opinion. When parking in parking garages (I know, I know) I always get first row reserved parking because the attendants dont want to listen to 500 car alarms going off 2 times (parking and leaving).
