Working within the constraints of a C3's hood clearance... what manifolds are we able to run? I'd like to run the performer air-gap, just for the denser intake charge. Whatever your running thats not stock, could you list the intake/carb/air cleaner setup? Doesnt matter if its small block or big block... I'm sure somebody is pondering doing it!
I've got 882 heads, so I need the ports to be smaller than 2 inches tall by 1.2 wide!
I havent been able to get the search function to work... I remember seeing a couple threads about the air-gap but dont remember the outcome, of whether it fit or not!
GM makes an aluminum low profile intake manifold for vehicles with clearance problems (read Corvettes). i have on my 79 and am very happy with it. Bonus, it has dual bolt pattern for square bore or spread bore carbs so you can use your Q-Jet or go with a Holley/Edelbrock, etc. and use the same manifold (no adapter required).

Well for what kinda carb?
Plenty alum intakes at the boneyard Blue Man. I was at a pick ur part salvage last Saturday and saw plenty of stock Chevy alum intakes for Qjets. Why spend $200 when $20 will get u nearly the same performance or even match it?
Look in mags for carshows/swapmeets in ur area and alum intakes are always a popular item for sale - and all kinds. And swapmeets can be a great place to source other parts too.
Happy hunting. cardo0
I have a 1 1/4 inch drop base with 2 1/4 inch filter element and I can use up to a Victor Jr. with 1/2 inch spacer and still clear the hood by over 1/4 inch... The Performer RPM Air Gap and the Victor Jr. are about the same height...
I've been thinking about that air gap... but I may take cardo's advice and pick up a cheap weight saver... and eventually switch to aluminum heads as well.
Save the moolah while waiting for some greenies to float my way
The L-82 aluminum manifold is patterned after the famed LT-1 intake manifold. Far superior to Edl. Performer. Which in my opinion is just a notch above some old cast iron GM after thought.
My parts interchagne manual lists the L82 manifold as swapping with the following:
Part number 14007377 (78-79 vette L82)
77-78 caprice 350 4 barrel with cali emissions
78 century 305 4 barrel V8 with cali emissions
79 malibu/monte carlo/sprint/cutlass 4 barrel
For the LT1 Manifold 3972115 (Aluminum highrise 3972110)
70 corvette 350 Lt-1
70 Camaro Z28
70 Chevelle 350 330 hp V8
Part number 3931575 Aluminum (69 Corvette 350)
69 Corvette 350, 350hp V8
68-69 Camaro Z28
I thought those late model (80"s) aluminum manifolds were just low performance cast iron manifolds that were cast in aluminum for weight savings. I also heard they have water leakage problems. Joe
PS The LT-1/Z-28 manifold is the same as the Holley 300-36 manifold, Holley helped develop it for Chevy.
Performer plus Speed Demon at the moment. The new engine has an air gap and a 750 Edelbrock. All the info I have says that wuith an airgap and a stock S/B hood you need a drop base filter.
Using the 71, 72 LT1 aluminum intake #3959594, great manifold and you'll save 24lbs. Same height as 70 aluminum intake #3972110 just differant divorced choke connections. 650 with speed demon carb with 1/2" spacer. You will need a drop base air cleaner to make it fit. I use the LT1 drop base, works just fine........
