Default Question about front differential bushing...

Regarding the bushing on the front differential mount for a '79... is there supposed to be a metal sleeve that fits down the center of the bushing(s)? Seems like there is.. and apparently throughout my resto it's gone missing. Anyone know where I can pick one of those up? I've checked a few of the vette vendors to no avail so far.

Thanks.

Seems I remember the bushing being part of one of the washers, not a separate piece itself. That being said you could get someone to measure the length of it and add a home made bushing, believe it just keeps you from overtightening and crushing it.

There is absolutly a metal bushing in there. Places like Eclkers sell the whole kit or sometimes just the rubber/poly. Mine is not just a straight piece but looks like an L shaped piece.

I would browse the Vette part sites and eventually you will see a pic of one.

I made my own using a piece of 3/8" black pipe. I remember over-crushing the poly mount without the spacer piece. Call it Bubba if you want, but I've had no problems whatsoever.

I just got mine from Zip today. I think this is what you need. It just slips into the bushing. http://www.zip-products.com/Corvette...C46AADA999E725

Yeah... that's it... I just need that metal insert. I might have to fabricate one.... 9 bucks + shipping for a small metal bushing isn't worth it.

You can't see it on the picture but the bushing is attached to a washer on the bottom, kind of like how the stock rubber trailing arm bushings are. Does it need to be attached? I don't know. I suppose you could weld on a washer and grind smooth the weld.

Might try that.

And just so I'm clear.... that pictured bushing goes on top of the frame.... the other half of the bushing goes on the bottom of the frame... then the front differential bracket... then the washer/nut... correct?

So that working from top down you have

bolt head
upper cushion
frame crossmember
lower cushion
diff. bracket
washer/nut

Just wanna make sure I have everything oriented correctly.
