The guy had pulled the engine in 1987 because of a cam lobe going away and he never got the engine rebuilt. I bought it without an engine and transmission.

The L48 camshafts steel was soft from the vendor. It wasn't just Corvettes but all GM L-48 engines during this time. jim
I tore down my '80 with 45K on it and it had one lobe starting to go. The engine ran well so it was not something I was planning on replacing but that is the way it goes. Cams are cheap and most guys here like to change em out for aftermarket anyway. I just put a stock replacement L-82 cam back in there. I saved the HD hardfaced lifters as they still looked good and maybe I can find someone to reface them someday.
