well,
after reading the posts on the windshield frame rust issue, i decided to pull mine apart and see what was up.... well, i need new clips for the trim and new screws and ....drum roll please.....a new windshield..hahhaa..... i cut the calk from the windshield except for a bit on the bottom that i couldn't get to.....i was easy in pulling it off but then it spider cracked from the bottom driver side.....damn..... just another reason to buy a new part..yeah..... well, i had a "short out" (mine and buddies college term for getting pissed and frustrated) and went hog wild on the windshield..... i got it off and also had to clean up the glass..... my frame is good..other than a small rust hole in the corner brace....i cleaned it up with a wire brush on a drill and sprayed some rust proof on it (not por 15) and rustoleum it a few times...... so, now i need a windshield but will get it after the car is painted...spring time hopefully....... how much do they go for...77 vette....and i also need the clips for the trim....don't know where to get those..

there was a really long post on this a couple of weeks ago.. i paid like $280 installed in my drive way and seems to me i was on the high side of what everyone else said...
When I had to replace my windshield frame on my '77, the body shop needed a windsheild to line it up right. They said it was cheaper to get it through them. Cost me $225.
Car was off the road for a couple of months. Car is on 4 jack stands and you can tell the car hasn't been driven for a while. So I decided to remove the 3 pieces that are on top of the window frame on a vert. The 2 corners are chrome and the center is stainless. I figured I'd polish up the center and re-chrome the 2 ends. Well, anyway when I was trying to unscrew the rusted 30 year old screws the screwdriver just barely got the edge of the windshield and hello FRAKENSTEIN. I called my insurance company and they send a glass guy right to the house NO CHARGE with no deductable and no rise in premium. One (probably the only one) good law Florida has. The state thinks of safety, so if you have a cracked windshield, you just call up the insurance guy and "presto" new windshield.
