Ack. Lots of old Fords out there with history though. Fred Lorenzen's '64 Galaxies come to mind too.
This batch of crap is just all Ford had to offer before the 64 1/2 Mustang came out. And even though the early Mustangs looked good they handled like trash! That front end with the spring/saddle on TOP of the upper control arm made the UPPER ball joints the load bearing component.
G.M. used the standard Short arm/Long control arms with the spring BETWEEN the two, making the LOWER ball joint the load bearing one. So the Novas, Camaros, Chevelles, Vettes, all these cars handled so much better than Mustangs, it's amazing Ford sold as many of them as they did!
But these Fairlanes did have a piece of history too. It was just short and anyone who is willing to pay 300K for one is foolish IMHO.
Same goes for any of the Ford iron that was Pre Mustang.
Dep,
You are stirring the pot again, but now with a Ford?? Isn't this your O/T area? Seriously, I do not know how anyone would pay more than $10,000 for what is basically a two-door family sedan with a big motor. Surely this car would appeal to a very limited audience at best, at a MUCH lower price. The seller is...nuts. But it doesn't hurt to try on EBay.
At $300K it's going to be in the owner's garage for a few more years. In my opinion there are not that many people interested in something like that and at the asking price there is no one interested. The ebay listing is just a way to see if there is anyone dumb enough to pay the price. I would like to see what it would get at a Barrett-Jackson auction. I'm sure they get a nice chunk for selling it but they tend to get biddeers to overpay on many cars.
How about the 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich with an image(?) of Christ that went for $10,000. That was about two weeks ago. I've gone through a lot of bread and sliced cheese since then. Closest I've come is a racoon.
I think alot of you guys don't realize the history behind this car. Yeah, $300k is outlandish, but it's definately worth alot more than $10,000. As stated the front bumper is aluminum, some parts I think were acid dipped, etc. There is alot more to this car than meets the eye. If you see one in person, it's a really cool car. It was a factory built racecar, not unlike the ZL1's and other ultra rare cars. I'm a Chevy guy all the way, but this car certainly can bring alot of money-just not 300 grand.
Ugly car. I don't really care for the history. History doesn't make it look good. Like the Hemi Dart. Give me a great looking car with lots of options that can roast the tires and I'm happy. Unless there's $295,000 in the trunk, this car to me is not worth it. IMHO
LOL..............Aint we a bunch a car nurds, I owned one of the first 64 and a half mustangs, drove it before the war, wife drove it while I was away in the war, took it back from her boyfriend after the war, drove it some more. Rebuilt the crappy 3 speed in the floor 3 times over the years, it was green with white shelby strips. The tranny locked up on me, again, going to Macon Georgia in 75. I left it sittin on the side of the road with the signed title sitting in the drivers seat. Just pulled my cassete deck out of the chrome slide out mount under the dash, with my "Yes" tape in it!
Oh , and my first car at 15 in Tenessee was a 1964 Ford Falcon.... :o

I honestly would not be surprised to see that car go for $150-$175k at B-J.
