Default Recipe for Restoring L-82 Valve Covers

-pick up a good, dirty but inexpensive set on EBay

-set rubber grommets aside in a Zip-Lock bag with WD-40 for nourishment
-spray with paint remover, let sit for 15 minutes
-scrub with a cheap kitchen brush and wash thoroughly
-wash with varsol, let dry
-finish cleaning coat with lacquer thinner
-spray with a thin coat of primer, let dry 30 minutes
-spray with thin coats of high-heat engine enamel, 30 minutes between coats (four should do it)
-let dry for 24 hours
-scrape fins bare with a paint, one-sided razor blade
-install new crossed flags emblem
-re-install rubber grommets
-now that all ingredients are mixed, cook in oven to cure paint as per paint manufacturer's instructions (I find 200 degrees for 30 minutes works well)
-after 30 minutes set aside units to cool
-serve with Molson's Canadian

I now have a perfect Christmas gift for a friend with a 1980 who did me a favour recently. I love cooking and good friends.

Very nice. I prefer the polished ones from earlier L82's though. Joe

You can bake them on the car. But in this weather what choice do you have?

Robert,
You will find over time that Corvette owners give and receive. Generally you get back much more than you give.

This job (rear main seal, etc.) cost me two large pizzas. Join a local Corvette Club.

VERY nice job Paul.

I would have followed up with a Carlesberg though.

That last picture wasn't outside already was it?

Yes, that's outside. Looks like a White Christmas.
