Positraction VS. HD Positraction
What are the differences between a SB differential and the heavy duty BB differential. How much HP will a SB differential handle.
I'm thinking of selling my "AT" code HD 3.08 and buying a rebuilt "AP" code 4.11 SB differential but concerned that my 427/ 430 hp my be to much for it.

The internals are the same.
The side yokes on BB cars used caps instead of the "U" bolts.
That's it. I do not think the "U" bolts will be what busts first. Ujoints tend to be the weak link.

The SB automatics and BB cars used the caps. The SB 4 spds used the straps. The posi clutches are the same. You could remove the rear end and do some mods to the carrier,bearing reatiners, gears to strenghten them. If yours is in good shape spend the money on it instead of getting another one that need the same things done.
