Default torque converters , how much stall

running a 350,9 to 1 comp.,duration on cam is about the same as the L-82, has 3.73 gears, and a TH400.

I would stick with the stock converter. Your setup does not justify going to a higher stall converter. Unless all you are doing is stop light to stop light you will get very tired of a non-stock converter stall speed.

A slight increase in stall will help, but your car will not be that much faster........just burn more gas

how are you going to drive? drag strip...street...etc....

why isn't the stock 1600 rpm stall speed good enough?

Default comp ration & mild cam

With 9.1:1 comp ration, most your power is at the lower rpm, so there the lower rpm lanch stall from factory is prob best. The other reason of a higher rpm stall is trouble at idle with a radical cam, so again it would be a waste. Looking for more power? Dome pistons to bring up the comp ratio a little, larger exhaust valve heads, headers, edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold, little more cam, and a proper sized carb to complete the tune. Just search the internet for "build up" on what ever engine you have. They will often provide a part by part and the result you should expect in the article.

When I had my 2004r installed, I went to an 1800 stall connvertor. So far with the L48, it was not worth the money over stock. I can powerbrake to 1600 instead of 1300, but so what!
I'll have to see with the 383 how it behaves.
