Default 1981 Interior Question

I'm in the process of replacing the console trim plate that goes around the shifter on my '81. I had all the attached parts disconnected and I was about to remove the trim plate, but I could not remove the cigarette lighter socket. Does anyone know how to get the lighter socket out of the console trim plate?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I saw the clip, but it appears to go all the way around the lighter socket...

The bottom cylinder should unscrew off from the bottom so the lighter be lifted out from the top side. The bottom cylinger completely encloses the internals of the lighter. Of course the bottom hot wire (orange I think) will have to be removed first, then once the cylinder is removed the ground wire will be able to be removed. Hope this makes sense

There is a small threaded stud sticking out the very bottom of the lighter. This stud holds the + wire. just slip this wire off the stud. Now the two halves will unscrew from each other. When they are apart the ground wire will come off, its held in place by the two halves when they are tight. The ground is like a big thin washer all around the unit. Just remember to put it back on before you thread the halves together again.
