I have heard it mentioned up here in the Northeast a lot about going South-FL,GA,LA,etc to find cheap vettes. I'm not talking about rebuildable cars, I can find them anywhere for $3,000. I'm hearing very good drivers for around $5-8,000-chrome C3's too. I just can't believe you're going to find much difference in good cars anymore between areas. Again I'm talking turn key drivers with solid frames. What's the story?
Thanks,
Gary

I didn't think so, it must be out in AZ or NM where they have them hidden

Hey Gary......just my observations here in Texas. The "big city" vettes seem to demand prices about like anywhere else. In the small (out in the middle of nowhere) towns you can still find some deals. Maybe it's the same everywhere though.

Merry Xmas to you. You may be right about the small towns but how many vette do you figure you'll find in a small town? I only asked because someone I know may planning a get rich quick business and I don't see it buying a vette in FL or GA and reselling them here. Maybe if it's a first time buyer and they soak up that southern car pitch, but anyone who is going to shell out big bucks will look over the car no matter where it came from. Then again I know of a nice 62 sitting outside not more 12 miles from me. Car hasn't been started in years. Roman Red with Hdtp,4 spd, not for sale. Yard ordiment.

I agree Gary.....buying south and selling north doesn't really sound like a plan to me either. The town I live in is pop. 15,000 and there are more older vettes here than I would expect. I am only one of two "driven" vettes, but there are at least 5 more sitting in garages, barns, or under tarps in or around town. There is a guy just outside town that has an unrestored original 71 sitting in his garage. From what I can tell if he had it judged by NCRS the only points deducted would be for a replacement master cylinder. He is the 2nd owner and the 1st owner lives across the street from me so I pretty much know it's history. I'd love to get my hands on it. It runs fine, but he doesn't drive it and doesn't want to sell it.
Merry Christmas to you also Gary.

You can find them, but as someone said, it's probably going to be away from the cities. I see them in Car.com in this area for 7-10 K all the time. They aren't going to be chrome bumper vettes, though. And you can count on them being "hill-billied" to one extent or another, but they do run.

I live in a small town in Tennessee. The Corvettes here command even more price inflation than most other parts of the country. That is mainly due to the absolute dominance that classic Chevrolets have in the local culture. Things like classic Chevelles, early Monte Carlos, Camaros, etc are almost Godlike around here. The Corvette is the natural extension of that and any Corvette pre 1979 is looked at with a classic sense and commands an even higher sense of "rarity" than what it may bring on the national market. Nice drivers are worth their weight in gold and sell quickly. Cars that are rightfully dismissed on these forums as needing far too much work are sold quickly here.
I bought my 79 L82 in Dallas. It is white, red interior. GM crate 350, $1900 worth of receipts for the air conditioner that was completely replaced with GM parts by the former owner. Paint is respectable, tires are in 80% condition. I gave $5500 for it from a seller on Ebay and had it shipped here by Fed Ex Custom Critical, ($650). I bought it sight unseen based on the history of the car, (Texas), and the sellers feedback. I think I did extremely well compared to what I could have found locally especially considering the car was an original Texas car with no rust to speak of. There is no WAY I could have matched that price locally for this same car.
Ebay is the way to go IMO. I have also bought my Dodge 4Wd truck on there as well as my wife's car. Look at a LOT of cars and don't get "married" to any until you buy it. The next thing I'd like to have is a Jaguar XJ6 with a Chevy SB professionally installed. I am watching Ebay for the right car.

Actually guys, Most of the "Barn Yard" Vettes have been allready sucked up by the industrious and inergetic, count me out of that lot. The only deals I've seen in the last 10 years have been on "Beaters" a Vette that was baught from a brother or an uncle for cheep and driven into the ground by some dweeb that realy don't give a damn. You can pick them up still, running, bout $6,000
Course I remember in the early 80's seeing these vets that we own, 68 to 73 on car lots at bout that price, no cheeper, the 350CI, 350 horse would demand about 5800. And they were in realitivly good shape. Somebody baught them.
