How do you measure the unsprung weight on a car? Do you have to remove all the components and weigh individually?
Things like the control arms that are bolted to the frame, do they "weigh" their actual weight when attached to the car, in relation to the suspension?
I've weighed some things on my car which is a '79. Not sure what this will do for you, but it's a little bit of info:
Stock upper control arms: 17lbs for both
Stock lower control arms: 31lbs for both
Tubular VBP upper control arms: 7lbs each
Tubular VBP lower control arms: 16lbs each
Front monospring: 7lbs
Tubular trans crossmember from BTO: 13lbs
Aluminum water pump from Stewart: 6lbs
I still haven't weighed the front coil springs or stock crossmember, but I can do it if you would like those weights.
I think you figure half the weight of the a-arms as unsprung weight. If you took out the spring and reconnect the a-arms, you could raise a scale under the tire to see how much it all weighs. Joe
can you list ALL the components included in the unsprung weight?? front and back?? and approximate weight? anyone have an idea as to what the TOTAL unsprung weight of a C3 is?
