Default Cleaning Gunked Up Aluminum

What is a good cleaner/solvent that will clean up an empty automatic transmission housing? I don't own a high pressure sprayer but there is a car wash down the road.

I thought about an "Engine" type spray cleaner, but don't they work best when the engine is warm?

TIA
Bill

Simple Green works great on aluminum without eating it....

Greased Lightning is my favorite for now. Wear gloves. It's not skin friendly.

I brought mine down to the transmission shop near my house. They have a really cool case cleaner, steam with solvent to clean and dries it too.
Cost me $5 and I got it back in a few minutes.

Castrol Super Clean undilluted gets my vote. Use with adequate ventilation and wear eye protection and rubber gloves. Nothing cleans like this stuff.

When I rebuilt this TH400, I stripped it down to just the case. Washed it in simple green and rinsed it off. Don't leave any aluminum soaking in simple green as it will attack it over a short time. When it was dry I used a scotchbrite type wheel from Sears in a hand drill to buff it out, then used a 4" buffing wheel and aluminum polish to throw a shine to it and clear coated it with Eastwoods.

Not a bad idea Bob,since the "silver capital of the world" was here in Meriden CT. Sadly, not many manufacturers left in CT these days, maybe a 1/3 from 20 years ago.

Oven cleaner. About 10 minutes and hit with a water hose.
