I recently rebuilt my engine and every since i've had an oil leak i can't seem to stop. I've pulled the pan 3 times, cleaned both the pan and mounting surface on the engine. Each time i've used cork gaskets and the last time i also used ultra black. The leak appears to be coming from the front seal where the oil pan mates with the timing chain cover. Someone told me to try "right stuff". Anyone have anyother ideas?
I recently posted where the dumb azz who built my current engine (me) had over tightened the timing chain cover enough to warp it causing a significant leak. A good way of determining where your actual leak is coming from is to get add some of the flourescent oil additive to your oil, run the engine for a couple of days, then use a black light. Your leak will then be real easy to find. Good luck.
Clean it off real good and dry then hit it with a coat of talcum powder. Run the engine a bit then check to see exactly where the leak is originating from.
You might be able to clean off the area and stop it up with a bead of RTV. Best repair is to find it and fix it right but you already know that.
Just a small tech tip here. For tracing leaks you can also use a can of spray deodorant that is the dry powder type. Just clean the area in question and then spray it with the deodorant. You'll then be able to see where the leak comes from and your car won't sweat and offend people with odor. Carry on.
