Default Electrical/wiring advice needed!!!

My frame off is coming to a milestone point, engine start up!!!!

By no means is this project anywhere near finished, but the progress has been good, and the chasis, engine compartment, wiring, engine, trany, all suspension, brakes and everything looks great. I'm really happy with it so far.

Now for the concern. I've had all the wiring/harnesses removed at one point or another, and I marked everything quite well, and most everything seemed to have it's correct place to go back to, although there have been a couple of, "does it go here or there?"

So, to be conservative, with one lead of battery still disconnected, I put my amp meter in series with the pos lead of a fully charged battery with the key off. Got a reading of 130 milliamps.

Then I swithed the ign switch to the on position, and checked it again. I got a reading of 1.5 amps.

Both of those readings seem ok to me, although, since the clock isn't working, I'm more concerned about the key off reading. Maybe it draws some current even though it's not working?

The 1.6 amps in the "ready to start" mode seems fine, but I'm no expert on electrical stuff.

A few more things to hook up tomorrow, some radiator clamps, and a final review of my 6 page check list, and then I'm going to light it up.

Hope it runs!

Any thoughts on my electrical paranoia?

Thanks, Bill

Man that sure seems like a light somewhere, but that would be too easy. Remove all your fuses from the fuse block and re-insert them one by one. It'll at least clue you in to the approximate area.

Unless you have an electronic clock (and those don't draw any kind of power) the original clock only draws current for a very, very short period of time once about every 2 minutes. You'll never see it on a meter.

Did I understand your coil is attached? You'll draw about 1 to 2 amps if the points are closed. Just a thought.

130mA isn't going to harm anything.

Could it be the seat belt warning light or buzzer?
