Default How to adjust 4-speed T10

I think my 4speed is stuck in 2 gears???? It is stuck in "second gear position" and won't shift out?? Do I need to remove the center console? I have messed with the linkage underneath the car but I can't seem to get it unstuck?--------- also before this problem happened, It was hard to get tranny into 2nd gear............then it stuck??

Take all your linkages off at the xmission. Then it's hammer time or a short lever. Move whichever, and the two shift levers to their center "neutral" position and the reverse lever to its "neutral" position. You'll have to check a manual on this one, but just looking at how the rods move when the shifter is moved into each position.

There is a chance that the "jamb" is in the "H" pattern shifter at the end of your shift lever. You'll know when you pull the rods off and can move all the levers on the xmission. Remember "Only one gear at a time". If you move any of the levers such that two gears are selected at the same time, you'll be in the same position as you are now.

You may also want to check the "H" pattern setup in the shifter for excessive wear. That'll "allow" the gears to cross shift and jamb.

You have a small chance of damaging the xmission if you push/hammer too hard. Use care.

Good luck.

I agree with Andy although I you can probably free up the transmission without removing the shift rods. It sounds like things are out of adjustment so you may want to remove them anyway. Or at least loosen them. Usually the arms are straight up when in neutral so just move both to the neutral position. A pair of channel lock pliers works well for this. All of this can be done under the car. You don't have to disassemble the interior.

Linkages only adjust for a neutral position. If it is stuck in gear, remove the rods and see if you can get the 1-2 lever in neutral. If YES then the linkage is sloppy and allowing you to come out of a gate while that gate is ALIGNED with the rest. If NO, you simply have a mashed 1-2 slider or messed up synchro assembly.
