Today's Dumb Question: Where to hook up remote starter switch?
Obviously, I don't hook up the remote starter switch directly across the starter terminals...that would melt the switch! So can someone tell me exactly which terminals on the solenoid I'm supposed to hook this thing up to?

the idea is to make an auxillary on off switch to replace the ignition switch...assuming yours is not different then mine ....one wire goes to the smaller terminal on the solenoid where the ign wire comes into and another wire goes to a positive battery source...(the alternator) or if you have room the starter batt connection (the big one)....if you have an old style coil you may have another wire for that i don't think you have an old stlye coil by looking at your avatar..you have an HEI correct?
I have HEI. Apparently, that makes things simpler. (Easy to disconnect the igntion, too...just pull the electrical connectors of the side of the distributor cap.)

Hooked mine at the starter and the exhaust melted the bubber boots!

One wire to the 12V coming from the battery (TOP terminal on the Solenoid) and the other goes to one of the small terminals on the solenoid. I don;t remember which small terminal (I believe it is the inner one), but you can try one and if the starter doesn't engage, try the other one - absolutely no harm if you pick the wrong one.
Fat red terminal and small purple wire terminal close to engine.
If you have the Ford relay mod it is very easy and handy to hook up. If you have the points style wiring setup you need to disconnect the ignition resistor bypass wire to the coil as otherwise this will allow your car to start if you are cranking the engine even with the key off. If you let go of the switch it would stop but that could be too late.
I've always connected them to the wire harness under the dash.
You are supposed to cut the starter wire, if I recall correctly.
It is heavy guage purple in later GM cars. For safety, you don't
want to bypass the neutral safety switch.
Oh - dumbazz - I thought you meant a wireless remote starter (key fob).
Manual remote start - for under the hood work:
like above : positive feed to the starter (battery cable) to the small
terminal closer to the engine should do it. The otehr small terminal is
an accessory power feed - so tryign this will not hurt the solenoid -
it simply won't do anything.
best way is probably to install a remote solenoid then you can easily connect to the starter side of the starter side of the remote and the solenoid (of the starter) side of the remote. also, your connections will be well away from exhaust heat and the melting issue should go away. my .02.
