Default Possible rear wheel bearing bad

While installing my new wheels (post later on that) I was getting a little rocking on the wheel. I thought it was the wheel not setting flush on the rotor. I grab the wheel at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and try to move it. I am getting some slop in the bearings. I have also been getting some whine from the rear end that I thought might be the gear lash. It seems to be getting worse and am now thinking it might be tied into the rear whell bearing. These bearings only have about 5K miles on them so I thought they should last longer. Any thoughts. I'll probably tear into later as the weather here is going to be getting worse soon. New wheels are awsome though. I'll post later with pictures on this.

Bearings should rock 3-6 O'clock.
12-6 could also be strut rod bushings or differential side yokes.
You could be hearing the side yoke rubbing the diff.
It should be easy to see, if they are.

Good Luck.

Gordon, that really sucks if that's your wheel bearings. I just had mine done and I kind of assumed that should be the end of it for a long time. Only 5K . Who did you have do yours?

Hey Gordon,
Why not try an isolate the suspect wheel? pull the 1/2 shaft and caliper out of the way so only the spindle is involved and see if you can feel any out of whack or hear any noise. You can check the end play too to see where you are. Bearings shouldn't go bad in 5000 miles if setup properly and lubed. Of course you do like to do 360* spins at Englishtown

I agree (except for the typo), try 3 and 9 o'clock. 12 and 6 is trailing arm i.e. side yoke play.

That is my first plan to do is pull the half shafts and see what play I have in the bearings if any. The trailing arm is rock solid so I know it is not the yokes. I have had the diff apart only 2K ago and everything is new or rebuilt in there. The whine could be bad gear lash but the bearing is what concerns me. I'll let you know when I can isolate the problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

please check u jonts and side yokes.....the side yokes movement is like really small before they need to be replaced...if you want i can find the article. In fact until i brought in the article in from corvette fever the rear end shop didn't think i had a problem with them....... all i know is that the dyno run took it up to 120 and the rear wheels just behaved womderfully....
