I found an old thread where you had pics of the underfloor insulation installed on your car. I bought the same insulation, in addition to the trans tunnel and collar insulation, and the "evil pointed clips" and rivets.
My question is, how, or where, do you install the clips? I can't find the insulation in the AIM, and I don't see any evidence of old clips or rivets under the car.
Also, does the insulation help reduce cockpit heat at all?
Jeff: Illustration should be in your AIM. Normally in Section A, Underbody. (close to front of AIM). Originally the clips were held on by two factory installed rivets. The tabs or ears of the clip were then bent over to secure the insulation to the underbody tunnel. Yes, the tunnel insulator helps control heat alot!

on my 77 its a steel floor and the clips don't do any good....i used the black weather stripping adhesive and foil tape to keep it in place unitl the adhesive dried....also my battery cable has retainers that are screwed down holding it in place....i used zero clearnace to finish off the job
I am at the same spot you are on my 69. My AIM does not show the insulation either. It shows revision pages for the metal/plastic shielding, but nothing on underbody insulation. The tranny collar and insulation are there, but nothing else. Could be part of the changeover from early 69 to late 69.
I've got the tunnel insulation already. I am replacing it, but I can see where to install the new insulation. I don't have any reference for the insulation that goes under both floorboards, that was absent on my car when I purchased it.

Hey Jeff, sorry, I just saw your post. As I understand it, some '69's had the insulation while others did not. I don't know if it was an early/late change or what. I haven't had time to look through my AIM or the 1969 Stingray Guidebook for reference, but if your car did not have the death clips riveted to the floorpans, then it must not have had insulation installed from the factory.
Basically, those clips are used along the front edge of the transmission tunnel and firewall to hold the leading edge of the insulation. The plastic shields and metal underpans really provide most of the holding by sandwiching the insulation to the floor. I don't think that I have any pics of my car with the bare floorpans showing. I'll dig through the AIM and guidebook to see what I can find for you.
I have been thinking about getting some new insulation for my 69.
The orig insulation was like wet dog hair, & I pulled out as much as I could.
It has the clips and stuff.
Is it possible to replace the trans tunnel insulation without dropping the trans??

Shannon- thanks for the info. My car is a very late '69, so that might explain it. I dug through the AIM again last night, and all that's shown is the tunnel insulation, and a firewall insulation blanket that has "canceled" written across the page.
Am I correct to assume that the square holes in the floor insulation are for the clips? If so, I think I can guesstimate where to rivet them to the floorpan. Also, I believe the widest part of the insulation goes toward the front of the car? From what I can see in the pics you posted earlier, it appears to be overlapped by the tunnel insulation.

Jeff, you're right on track. The square holes are for the clips, and the "wings" on each piece of insulation go inboard and overlap at the front edge of the trans tunnel. The rear edge of the insulation actually goes up and over the transmission crossmember and that's what holds it up against the rear of the floorpan.
I scannned through the 1969 guidebook and there is no mention of the underbody insulation. Oh well. Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

can't speak for sure on your application but on my 77 TH350 with the battery cable on the outside of the insulation and shifter linkage going through hole in middle this would be real tough to do with trans in...in fact i don't think i could do it....

Thanks a million Shannon. I just got under the car and test fit it. Looks like I could almost get away without the clips. I've got new tunnel insulation on the way as we speak. Once I get all this installed, I'm ready to reinstall the trans and engine.
