Default 4L60E into a 79

Just finished a body off resto of my 79. I am currently running a 94 vette drive train. Would like to keep my speedometer stock, but I have a vss sensor. Does anyone know if there is a modified tailshaft or a comppany that makes this combination work?

Yes, I believe that TCI makes an adapter. You don't have to change the tail housing.

The 4l60e is purely controlled by a pcm. I doubt you could make it work for cheap.

If the '94 drivetrain is complete, I'm assuming that you already have the PCM. If not, you can get a control module. Be that as it may, I do remember seeing a adapter that will allow you to run your mechanical speedo cable while also using the module for shifting. I'm still pretty sure that it is TCI. It was in the 100-200 dollar range, but it's been a while, don't remember exactly. The only other option that I'm aware of is to purchase an aftermarket speedo that is programmable which is what I did.

One question, do you have a 4L60 with a port that can drive a speedo or do you have a 4L60E that does not. With a 4L60 (or 700R4) you can put speedo gears in and buy a VSS that sandwiches in between the cable and the transmission.

I did exactly that.. it goes in between the VSS and allows you to run a cable to the speedo. I had to change speedo gears.

Thanks for all the good info. I do have a PCM but I'll have to check TCI about the adapter. As much as I have already put into this project a couple hundred more won't hurt the credit card anymore. Ha
Thanks again
