Default Power steering pump and Bubba???

My alternator is blocking my power steering pump so that I can't check the fuild level in it. Has Bubba been in my engine compartment? Thanks

Nope my 80 is the same way. With alittle bit of work you can remove the PS filler cap and check it.

And if you need to fill it up, you will notice your fan blades will have a section that is more spread out than the others. Move that open section in front of the pump and it makes filling the pump easier.

Once you get it out, cut off some of the stick up to the 'add' mark, it will make it easier in the future...

you know i had this same problem before i took the engine out. the ps was rotated up to much and you could not physically remove it......so i made my own "off set" dip stick.....used my buddies as a guide since i could only take mine off and i couldn't get it out....took i piece of 18 ga steel and made it 3/8 wide i bent it so it was the same length down as the original but the "off set" came at the top of the ps pump neck so i could slide it down into the pump from the front of the engine....the offset would stop at the filler neck and stick up about 1.5 inches so i could hold on to it...i then used chisel stamps and marked it like the original one (from my buddies)...i used a long trans funnel to fill it ....i can take pictures of it if you like...it actually served its purpose until i remedied the problem...

In this case, Bubba worked at Chevy.

IIRC a slightly longer belt will facilitate easier cap removal. I might have it backwards, but I believe adjusting the pump "in" to loosen up the belt moves the cap closer to the alt. Hence use a longer belt to keep the adjustment "out" more.

completely normal. I've taken my alt out to add fluid before. It's easy to remove.

When I first got the car, Bubba had a double groove 2 inch diameter larger pulley on the P/S pump. Just try getting a belt between that pulley and crossmember!

Just what wcsinx says. Wrong size belt. Mine would not come out for anything. Than I thought I might have the wrong belt on there. Sure enough. You will still have to tip it in just the right way, but it will come out then.
