drop base air filter
Have a 69 with a smallblock and original quadrajet carb. Where can I find a drop base air filter and how much can it be dropped? I'm trying to install a 3/4 inch spacer on carb and will have hood clearence problem without lowering base. Also can you just buy the base? Thanks

I went to a local speed shop. The drop base air cleaner was cheap. The shorty K&N filter was not. The K&N filter lid was through the roof and I decided to wait on that one.

One thing to make sure of when you get your new base - make sure the rim of the base that sits on the carb is tall enough to allow the carb pump lever to fully come all the way up. Otherwise the top of the pump lever will hit the bottom of the base and will make your idle high because the throttle plates will not be able to close all the way.
