I bought a Sony CD/am/fm from Crutchfield and they included a harness that plugged into the wiring for my 81, no splicing required. I would think they or any stereo installer shop would have a harness to fit a 71.
Anyone else? I know the 71 connector that connects to the radio is very strangely shaped.. I think it's totally different than the newer ones (1978+) I still haven't found any sort of connector that fits it. Can someone please help me, I know this has to be a common problem for early c3 owners?
Also, I just bought a brand new harness for my 71.. don't really feel like chopping it up. If I decide to sell it, I still want it to have all factory original clips on the wiring harness.
How could I wire my 71 corvette cd player (kenwood) to my current dash harness without having to splice any wires? Is this possible?
Thanks,
Michael
Just a thought.
If you could find an old radio from a junkyard (Don't know how standardized GM radios were in 71, but I'd think that they are pretty much the same) you could remove the female plug from the radio and splice the harness that came with your new CD player into it. Then you would just plug your male connector into the junkyard female. Voila!
This is a lot of extra work, but if you can't find an adaptor through Crutchfield or some other stereo outfit, and you refuse to cut your harness, it will work.
All you need is power and use the harness that came with the new stereo and run it to the speakers. Unplug the original wires to speaker and plug the new connections on.
