Default Question about headlights switch

I keep runnign into trouble with the brights switch on my 77. I realize this is the only year with the intergrated brights switch into the signal stalk, that broke on me earlier in the yar and was replaced. Anyway, a month ago all i had was brights on my car and tonight after driving all evening i suddently lost my headlights entirely. I dont think that there burned out becasue the BRIGHTS indicator was on before and now is off, thus i have no main illumination what so ever! I'm sick of this crap, i've seen some folks on the forum with custom kits were the headlights have been moved to the location of the fog lamps and i'm assuming that on my 77 the switch would have to be relocated as well since thats the weak link! Should i pursue some kind of custom set up w/ a relocated brights/headlamp switch or just fix the stock unit and deal with it everytime it breaks?

I lost all my headlights earlier this summer...found a bad connection on the passenger side firewall between the starter (which I tested and found hot) and the headlight switch (which was not hot)...

while I was at it, I found that the connection on the lamps themselves was corroded - changed to new halogens and no problems since..

now, on to that dome light problem..
