Default Another Power Steering Question

Ok...I got the control valve replaced because it was leaking. Also replaced was the steering shaft flexible coupling, which is just on the steering wheel side of the steering gear box. Now, when i turn the car at an intersection and let go of the wheel to come out of the turn, the wheels stay turned. I need to give the steering wheel a little help to come out of it. Would anyone know what is causing this? Thanks in advance!!

With the front wheels off the ground you remove the dust cap from your power steering valve and with the car running turn the nut that is under the dust cap until the wheels turn one direction then turn back until they stay centered. Doesn't take much of a turn on the nut, just play with it until the wheels stay centered.

You should really conduct the above procedure with the assist cylinder disconnected from the frame. Adjust the nut so that the piston rod remains stationary. The following three links describe the procedure completely.

If you didn't replace or "adjust" the steering gear as part of your refurbishing the steering, then adjusting the control valve will probably fix it. Otherwise, what you describe sounds like either the thrust bearing on the input shaft or the side cover sector shaft adjuster is too tight.

This is a link to the steering gear adjustment procedure. It can be done with the gear still in the car - if you are carefull!!!
