I am rebuilding my 71, 350ci with 270hp. I want to put new cam and lifters in it. What is the best out there to get a little more hp over stock. Do I go with hydraulic or mechanical lifters???? Whats the difference?? I have read in other threads that Edlebrock has a good
cam/lifter set up. Have summit catolog but there is too much to choose from. Car has Edlebrock intake, holley carb and headers, believe cam and lifters are stock. Any suggestions?
Hydraulic lifters dont have to be adjusted. Mechanicals have to be every oil change. Mechanicals are for high rpm combos for the most part. With your combo I'd stick with a 224* duration @.050. A little bumpy with little drivablity loss. Just my opinion.
You need to give trans. & rear gears for cam. Edelbrock, an intake co. has a very limited selection of cams so it's not likely to have what's needed. The guys I have seen rec. that haven't got a clue, they think that is an easy way to do it.
You have the stock heads installed ? You're looking for a cam that provides a little more HP over stock ?
If you're not looking for maximum HP at 6500 rpm then the Edelbrock Performer cam is a good choice. Including the hydraulic lifters it's only $130 at www.advancedautoparts.com
This is a mild cam that provides good low end power ....and the engine idles idles very smooth
