hi everybody and happy holidays. I am about half way through my tpi install and have a few questions. Which port do i use to connect my power brake ,headlights ect.vacuum lines? power for the ecm, injectors and emission stuff did you connect directly to ignition scorce or through a relay first, i don,t want to overload the ignition switch. my last big hurtle is what to do for a fuel pump, give me some sudjestion intank or out what worked and what did'nt and what did the pump come out of. thanks inadvance for you time gordy

I used the stock power brake line position in the rear corner driver's side, just up front of the dist, it's a 3/8 flare fitting into an NPT thread in the plenum....the rest was adapted into the pass side rear vacuum fitting holes, think I had to make my own adaptor, have to go look, not critical .....it's also where the fuel pressure reg and the MAP go....

power for the ecm, injectors and emission stuff did you connect directly to ignition scorce or through a relay first, i don,t want to overload the ignition switch.

there are 3 power wires to most GM computers of the era....one for each injector bank, I tied them together to one power wire with a feed directly off the horn relay/power dist point, this is allways hot, and also feeds computer memory...pulling the 7-10 amp bladed fuse erases computer memory, FYI.....the 5 volt internal computer source is wired to your ignition hot lead, or in my case interuppted with an anti theft device....

my last big hurtle is what to do for a fuel pump, give me some sudjestion intank or out what worked and what did'nt and what did the pump come out of. thanks inadvance for you time gordy
the fuel pump is a Master Tech? from auto zone, i'ts about 1.5 inches diameter and 5-6 inches long, and fitted onto the rear frame rail just below the fuel tank output on bottom pass side there, and held in with a wrapping of radiator hose, and hose clamp....I pressure the stock 3/8 fuel line, and use the stock 1/4 nch return line to tank top....renew ALL those hoses with DPFI rated pressure hoses.....double clamped, and adapted to the TPI, I used Erols hoses, but others are just as good....

hey, have fun, it's well worth the bother, doubles your fuel economy, and runs SO much better....

i had the same setup as gene but my pump was too noisy for me,i had an aftermarket inline pump,so i changed to and intank style and adapted it to fit my stock sending unit. The vacuum port will be down low between your runners on i think the drivers side of the tpi.

Power brakes has a port on the drivers side rear of the plenum. It has a brass adapter and then I think it's 3/8 inverted flare.

For headlights and other I used the hole in the plenum on the pass side. I got a larger fitting ('90 2.0 Cutlass Ciera)

ECM is directly wired to the battery with a fuse (I put it in the storage compartment behind the pass seat). ECM trigger wire is just plugged into the fuse box in a switched position. It doesn't draw much power.

Fuel pump I used a 88 Ford truck external pump mounted above the rail on the passenger side. It says it has no suction, but it does. If you have a 78-82 then use an 82 sending unit in your stock tank. Be sure to use fuel injection hose everywhere.

If you are not one of the ones I posted my TPI info for, then do a search on TPI in the last day or so and there is a link to the post that has some good info.

My fuel pump external in the old spare tire carrier area. Aero in line pump.. no noise.. rubber mounts. I used an aftermarket plenum from first injections, vacume port for brakes on the driver rear for lights, etc on pass rear. You will love the set up and it is VERY reliable. I have a lopey cam so I added a closed loop WBO2 set up from FAST in replacement of the GM unit. It runs great and is fully programmable. I have the 700R4 in it which also helps (3:55 rear). In fact I am even thinking of going with the Keiseler conversion, though it is a bit pricey

Good Luck

Default I'm running an internal reservoir type...

90 Ford Bronco fuel pump in mine. I run a RAmJet 350 controlled by a 1990-92 gm TPI computer. Take a look a my Corvette Photos
(<-<-<----to the left here) for pictures of the pump.

Very interesting. So you use the stock sending unit for a level and modified a 90 Bronco sending unit for fill and pump? Did you have to move the pump any or was it in the right place? How close to the bottom of the tank is it?

Nice job

Default I actually made it hard on myself...

The assembly was too tall and I had to cut it down. Only reason I thought about a Bronco fuel pump is because a friend and I both own Broncos and we had replaced his fuel pump. I bought an emergency spare so I started eyeballin' it...it looked like it would fit in the hole....it didn't, I had to do some minor grinding to make the hole big enough.

If I had to do it over again, I would make it shorter but use the original stainless steel top plate. Instead of trying to braze the tubing, I would use fuel resistant f.i. hose and just braze the bracket. Also, I would just use the original fuel outlet/inlet and use f.i. clamps to attach the fuel supply/return hoses.

I used to have an external fuel pump on my Holley Pro-Jection system and it would starve if I took a sharp turn....had to keep the tank >1/4 full all the time. I didn't want that again so I had to find something else. During my research I discovered that there are several manufacturers that make these "reservoir" type fuel pumps....some may be smaller than this Bronco unit too.

The pump sits about 1/4" off the bottom of the tank. I got that info from the ford truck forum....on my fuel tank there is a little indentation directly below the fuel filler area. As you'll note from the pics, there's an external filter at the bottom of the assembly.

Yes, I do use the stock sending unit for fuel level indication....which by the way, I need to get around to fixing...I didn't mess it up doing this, but I didn't fix while I had the tank empy either.
