I own an '80 vette and i need to replace the tires. I cannot find the original Goodyear Eagles anywhere. Does anyone out there have a suggestion for a brand and size that has worked for them? I plan to keep the stock rims.
Goodyear still makes the Eagle GT2 in 255-60-15, this looks almost 'stock'
Firestone and BFGoodrich make tires in this size, all three are pretty good... I bought the BFGoodrich tires and they are all right - you cannot expect too much performance out of these tires anyway, they don't compare to modern tires in 17" sizes....
If you are looking for "period" tyres, I am running Yokahama 352's and am still impressed with the grip offered by a 25 year old design. I didn't like the TA's I had on another car as they had no grip and wore out real quick. Can't comment on the Firestones.
The 352's are still in limited production and I know you can get them in 235 and 245/60/15. Unsure about 255 width though.
If you are just looking for good tyres check out Kumho. I have them fitted to my 68 Bonneville in 225/60/15 and am very impressed with the traction and wear. The Bonnie used to chew through tyres (real big car).
Good luck with your search!
