The Pertronix Ignitor II documentation says not to use with solid core spark plug wires. What is a "solid core" wire?
Many solid strands of copper wire as opposed to a carbon resistor or spiral core. I run solid core wires on my '64 with the wires actually soldered to the ends for the very best energy transfer. However, because I run a Mallory CD ignition, I run a short spiral core wire between the coil and distributor. (A Mallory recommendation.) I've never had a problem with this set-up.
"Normal" plug leads have a resistance built in to them to help with radio suppression.
The solid cores are nominally 0 ohms as opposed to the 3-5000 Ohms of the suppression leads.
The solids cores would increase the current flowing to the plugs and therefore the current switched by the pertronix module. Liable to burn out the module. Same result as using a low impedance coil.
